Pizzo Carbonara

Pizzo Carbonara (1,979 m a.s.l.) is the highest mountain of the Madonie Park and is the second in Sicily after Etna (3,340 m). A quite challenging route (better to do only in excellent weather conditions) allows you to reach the top, from which you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the island and the karst landscape of these mountains.

Large beech woods cover the highest parts of the massif, while at the lower altitudes there are residues of holm oaks, oaks and downy oaks. The route is also characterized by the presence of rock formations due to the numerous inclusions of marine fossils, from banks of sponges, to algae and corals, even of considerable size.
