Pollina

Pollina is a village in the province of Palermo, located 18 km from Cefalù and 13 km from Castelbuono, with about 3000 inhabitants; its characteristic profile, the small and narrow streets and the particular tones of light which are reflected on the Pietrarosa Amphitheater, make it a village absolutely worth discovering.

A visit to the delightful old town is recommended, characterized by mostly uphill streets, ancient buildings, houses, churches and squares that are meeting places for the inhabitants of the town.

Pollina is surmounted by the Maurolico Tower, which stands out with its recognizable square shape and which in the mid 1500s was used by the scientist Francesco Maurolico as an astronomical observatory.

Thanks to its position, this small town offers a spectacular panorama among sky, sea and earth, going down the valley to the villages below, the beach with the beautiful gulf of Finale di Pollina, and the Eolie islands on the horizon.

Pollina, together with Castelbuono, is the only place in the whole Mediterranean where the knowledge and technique of the production of manna (a particular resin that is extracted from ash trees) has been preserved. The woods of the surrounding area have thus become a sort of natural museum where you can discover how this particular product is produced.
