Petralia Soprana

Petralia Soprana is the highest town in the Madonie Park and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in Sicily.

It is a typical mountain village characterized by cobbled streets embellished with flowered balconies, ancient churches that house splendid treasures, fresh and clean air, a regenerating silence and a very relaxing atmosphere.

In Piazza Loreto, the most panoramic area of the city, stands the majestic church of Santa Maria di Loreto, reconstructed in late Baroque style and that contains works of incredible beauty.

A walk up behind the church leads to a panoramic terrace and, continuing along the short path, you’ll reach a viewpoint from which you can enjoy an amazing view of the valley and the surrounding mountains, you can even see the Mount Etna!

The Town Hall, once a Carmelite convent, Palazzo Pottino and the Collegio Church stand out in Piazza del Popolo.

The most surprising square is undoubtedly Piazza Duomo, famous for its church with two bell towers, one from the Norman era and the other dating back to the 1700s which houses the Union Bell of 18 quintals weight.

Finally, the Chiesa del Salvatore is a unique example in the Madonite territory for its elliptical plan, perhaps the legacy of an ancient mosque transformed into a Christian temple in Norman times.
